In June of this year Novak Djokovic became the first man in 47 years to hold all 4 major tennis titles at the same time.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man, and make no mistake about what he said to the media, Andy Murray’s goal in 2016 was to be World #1.
How did Andy Murray turn his year around?
He planned this from the beginning of the winter training camp in Miami, and in getting to World#1 he won Wimbledon, Olympic gold, 6 titles, lost 3 matches and finishes the year on a 24-match unbeaten run.
He got the people right, and started with himself. From the tears of defeat in Australia, Andy caught the first flight home and from then on targeted Novak. Don’t underestimate the importance of his wife, Kim, the support of family and friends, and becoming a first-time dad with the birth of Sophia.
He found and channelled the passion, and we all admire the Andy Murray roar. Andy’s family summer holidays re-invigorated him but this is a man who loves team sports; much of his training involves tennis football. He is so proud of Team GB, a major factor behind his Olympic gold success.
He performed, and make no mistake that he got the right people around him. His drive together with experts in training, fitness, nutrition, a trusted travelling coach in Jamie Delgado forged a strong team. Every team needs a great leader and from the moment Ivan Lendl re-entered the Murray camp at Queens’ Club he delivered instant success.
The productivity has soared. The metrics speak for themselves: 100% success on grass (12-0); 89% hard courts (48-6) and 85% clay (18-3); and, of course, World #1.
Plan, people, passion, perform, get them right and see your productivity soar in 2017.
