A first for Yorkshire and Humberside Public Prisons Regional Strategic Board

Yorkshire and Humberside (Public Sector Prisons) Regional Strategic Board is the first in the UK to receive certification for meeting the requirements of the Investors in Excellence Standard in Leadership.

Amy Rice, Deputy Director Custodial Services, said, “I am delighted that the Board, which consists of the Governors in Yorkshire and Humberside and members of the regional team, has been recognised formally by Investors in Excellence.  The accreditation reflects objective recognition that the team are operating to an excellent leadership standard, which is so important given the range of changes we are embarking upon and the development of the region which is taking place against a challenging backdrop for everyone”.

“It is apparent through observation that the Board members work well as a collective, supporting each other and working for the benefit of the region as a whole” commented Judy Hart, Head of Business Development, Investors in Excellence. “We have seen absolute professionalism from the Prison Governor Board members and it is to the credit of the Deputy Director of Custody, Amy, that her strong and supportive leadership style has brought the team to their current cohesive position in such a short timeframe. We are immensely proud to have been involved thus far and look forward to seeing the Board work towards full Investors in Excellence certification in the next 12 months”

The culture which has been engendered within this leadership team supports the NOMS (National Offender Management System) initiative ‘Our New Way’ which encourages staff to consider new ways of working. As a result, all Public Sector Prisons in Yorkshire and Humberside have committed to achieving certification to the Investors in Excellence Standard. In itself another first!
