Exciting developments for the future direction of Midlands Excellence

Exciting developments announced at the Midlands Excellence Awards Ceremony on 8th March 2012

Throughout 2011, the Trustees of Midlands Excellence undertook a comprehensive review of the activities of the charity and concluded that:

•  the charity should separate from its trading arm, Investors in Excellence, the part of the business that provides direct support to organisations. This has been completed.
•  and look for a partner that could take on the charitable objects which are focused on education and research.

Following a rigorous search and competitive bidding process, the Trustees of Midlands Excellence have selected a world-class educational institution, the University of Birmingham to take forward the objects of the charity.

To achieve this, the university has established the MidEx Programme, which will deliver an exciting blend of leading-edge research, education and the sharing of best practice in Midlands-based organisations.

Working in partnership with Investors in Excellence, the programme will draw upon the considerable resources within the university’s College of Social Sciences to benefit organisations in the public, private and third sectors across the region.

In addition to the above, Investors in Excellence will take over other core activities of the charity, to include: the provision of an annual awards programme, which in future will be based on the Investors in Excellence Standard and will be complemented by a range of recognition and knowledge sharing opportunities.

Ian Nield, Chief Executive of Investors in Excellence, commented: “The change of the governance structure at Investors in Excellence and the partnership with the University of Birmingham will enable us to provide a far wider range of value-adding support to our growing customer base. This is a very exciting time indeed.”

Mick Lavety, trustee of Midlands Excellence made the following address at the ceremony:

Professor Edward Peck as Pro-Vice Chancellor and The Head of the College, commented: “As part of the legacy of Midlands Excellence, The University is fully committed to the MidEx Programme. We are looking forward to working with Investors in Excellence in developing this programme and providing a wide range of high quality support to customers across the region, the UK and internationally.”
