Business Excellence in Housing, London

‘Inspiring’ was only one of the words used to describe the Business Excellence in Housing event held on 30th September at BNP Paribas Fortis’s prestigious London Headquarters.

Attended by over 50 senior executives from a range of housing organisations across London and the South East, this unique CIH London event provoked a debate as to how organisations can own their self improvement journey by using the Investors in Excellence Standard.

Alan Jones OBE (Midlands Excellence Chairman) provided a personal insight into how he has used this approach to deliver excellence in customer services at one of the world’s leading companies TNT. This organisation at one point was proudly recommended by Which for their approach to customer service. Alan spoke with passion about how the approach unites staff around a common set of priorities providing focus and direction to generate success. At the heart of his presentation was a message to all organisations to develop caring people with a passion for service. Alan urged all organisations to take up the mantle of Investors in Excellence without delay.

Ron Dougan, Chief Executive of Trent and Dove Housing (who was awarded the national housing chief executive of the year) spoke with passion and pride as to how his organisation has used Investors in Excellence as a key element to providing better homes and better services to customers. Investors in excellence allowed Trent and Dove to benchmark not only with the housing sector but across a wide range of sectors, leading to a genuine improvement in services.

Ian Nield and Julian Beaney from IiE provided practical examples on how excellence is applied in a range of organisations emphasising that the approach focuses on results and outcomes and is based on some of the leading best practice material from organisations across Europe. In particular many organisations use the Investors in Excellence standard as the underlying improvement framework that coordinates continuous improvement plans as well as providing a fantastic recognition opportunity that is recognised across business sectors.
